small wallets and big cities make terrible bedfellows

life from inside a box

Been in Bristol about six weeks now.

The place is nice, we have nice flat in the nicest part of town, sharing with a Greek would-be Bio Chemist. I stress the words would-be because the obsessive feta eater hasn’t found work since completion of his Phd, a year and a half ago.

This creates problems for me. Problems because I too haven’t worked since arriving in Bristol. Granted I haven’t looked very hard yet - still living off savings, so the stress of no money isn’t that severe - but it makes it that much more difficult motivating oneself to get up and do something when you're sparring partner is staunchly planted in the do nothing camp.

This week I finally bit the bullet, wrenched open the rusty hinges of my wallet and purchased a 35mm dedicated film scanner. Now I can scan the film shots of the trip, and the project can start to be finished.

That is one great thing about not working; I've all the time I need to focus on photography based tasks. The sort of tasks yielding no money but infinite satisfaction I mean.

The cheque's in the mail.
